Random Responses

I regularly receive e-mails with corrections, some of which are valid, suggestions for alternative answers, ways questions can be misinterpreted and so on. I take each one seriously and I do look into every request. I often have a discussion with users, especially those who are related to people whose names are forever immortalized, and we end up rephrasing questions or sometimes completely eliminating some from the database.

Once in a while, I get such requests submitted as questions. I take those seriously as well, but I cannot have discussions with those users because there is no way to contact them back. When you submit a question, this site does not capture any private details, just the question you submit. Therefore, I have decided to publish some responses publicly now in the hopes that the user sees the response. There won’t be many of these posts since these submissions are rare, but here goes it…random response #1.

I received the following from a user (there are no edits):

“question” : “? #7 says peacocks do not lay eggs”
“answer” : “You need to correct it. They do lay eggs. “

Unfortunately there is no indication to which question this is referring to. After a bit of digging through the 20,000+ question, I concluded that it refers to the following one:

“question” : “What color eggs do peacocks lay?”
“answer” : “They don’t lay eggs”

The reason why this question will not be changed is because it is meant to be a tricky question. Peacocks do not lay eggs, but peahens do. A peacock is a male peafowl while a peahen is a female peafowl. Males from these species do not lay eggs.

If it makes everyone feel better, I fell for this question years ago so I made it one of the first trivia questions when I created the original database.

April 2018 Recap – Random Trivia Generator by the Numbers

Hello dear readers and fans of the Random Trivia Generator and welcome to the first update of 2018. The purpose of these posts is to provide a peek behind the curtain and all the action that takes place to bring the tens to thousands of trivia questions to users. Since the year started, our family gained a new family member which resulted in me focusing my energy elsewhere for a bit. But now that the little man is comfortable sitting by himself, I can focus on my hobbies.

New Questions

Since the last monthly recap in October we added 427 new questions to the main Random Trivia Generator website. As of this post, we are sitting at 19,744 trivia questions and I am hoping to cross the 20,000 barrier in the near future.

I want to thank everyone who sent in questions. I have been trying to catch up on user-submitted questions since the end of last year but things are a bit slow as there are hundreds of submissions that I need to go through, verify and fix some spelling mistakes.

New Quizzes and Rounds

Not much has happened since October 2017 as creating new themed quizzes and rounds takes effort and sometimes all I have is a few minutes to add one or two questions. I did have the time to create a 2017 recap quiz and start a new series of trivia rounds based on countries starting with a specific letter.

Stay tuned for even more questions next month.

June 2017 Recap – Random Trivia Generator by the numbers

Hello dear readers and fans of the Random Trivia Generator and welcome to another monthly update…is what I would have said if I didn’t miss the last few months. Sorries. New Questions

This month we added 258 new questions to the main Random Trivia Generator website…in addition to the other 724 added over the past few months I didn’t publish any of these updates. As of this post, we are sitting at 18,488 trivia questions.

I want to thank everyone who sent in questions. I haven’t processed them all, but this month I added more than 70 user-submited questions! There are about another 100 in the queue from this month, which I will get to over the next week.

New Quizzes and Rounds

I have been slacking off on this, but I did publish a quiz commemorating Canada’s 150th birthday.

New Developments

Hosting has been migrated to a new server with more processing power and better connection in the hopes of improving performance. We also added a loading screen to brighten up the white page you would normally get while the site is loading.

Stay tuned for even more questions next month.

February 2017 Recap – Random Trivia Generator by the numbers

Hello dear readers and fans of the Random Trivia Generator and welcome to the first of, what I hope is, many monthly update posts. The purpose of these posts is to provide a peek behind the curtain and all the action that takes place to bring the tens to thousands of trivia questions to users.

New Questions

New Developments

We are slowly tagging all questions with specific sub-categories in preparation of one of the most requested features – sub-categories! The process is very time consuming as we need to re-evaluate each question and what general sub-categories it could be tagged under. This activity also allows us to do some double-checking of the facts and the spelling.

For the eagerly, check out the preliminary implementation on the old website.

Stay tuned for even more questions next month.
